My Community Engagement Experience at Lotus Petal Foundation

I had a truly enriching community engagement experience at Lotus Petal Foundation. It was a great opportunity for me to connect with a community that shares my passion for education and social welfare. I deeply resonated with the foundation’s mission to provide quality education to underprivileged children. I was eager to contribute my time and skills for the welfare of the students.

As a volunteer, I had the opportunity to support the academic progress and overall development of their students. It was an insightful experience for me to teach commerce lessons to 8th graders. I introduced them to basic banking concepts and marketing strategies. I used some real-life examples and had some interactive activities to have the attention of these students. I also made these concepts accessible and engaging for the students. It was completely delightful to first hand witness their creativity and enthusiasm.

During my community engagement days, one of the most rewarding experiences was conducting a performance arts session with 4th graders. I had planned few games and creative activities for the students. I was really happy to see the way students were expressing themselves freely and how their confidence has grown exponentially. Seeing this growth in students and how confidently they came up with their own skits to perform with such energy and passion was heartwarming.

It was a pleasant experience to visit the Lotus Petals Foundation’s school and witness the kind of infrastructure and resources are available for the students. The well-equipped classrooms, computer labs, science labs, library and virtual grocery shop showcased the foundation’s commitment to providing holistic education. I was fortunate to get an opportunity to meet the founder, Kushal Raj Chakravorty Sir. The interaction we had was inspiring and I learnt a lot from his journey and the vision he had for the foundation was truly motivating.

During the lunch break, I got an opportunity to interact with the students on a personal level while serving them khichdi. I do remember the conversation I had with a 12th-grade student who shared his aspirations and experiences with me. It was a reminder of the transformative power of education has. He left a lasting impact on me the way he remained determined and focused on his goals despite facing challenges.

On 5th December 2025, I honoured with Volunteer’s Excellence Award by Lotus Petal Foundation. The event included a heartwarming speech by the chief guest and it was a testament to the foundation’s appreciation for it’s volunteers. I am humbled to receive this recognition and happy to see my family being proud of my achievements and contribution to the society.

Reflecting on my experience at Lotus Petals Foundation, I have learnt the impact education can have on one person, the value of empathy and the significance of community support. First hand witnessing the dedication of the teachers, resilience and spirit of the students and the foundation’s commitment has left an indelible mark on me. This journey was an eye-opening opportunity for me as it has instilled a renewed sense of purpose. It has inspired me to continue seeking opportunities to contribute to the betterment of society and make a positive difference in the lives of others.
